Experience:

You will be starting your safari from your hotel in Kandy at 11:00 am. Your chauffeur will be picking you up from your hotel and driving you to Kaudulla National Park.

Kaudulla National Park is based around an irrigation tank built by a king of times long past. Now it is surrounded by dry evergreen forests and is home to many species of mammals, birds, reptiles, and fish. Kaudulla was identified as an Important Bird and Biodiversity Area (IBA) by Birdlife International recently.

Upon visiting, you have a chance to catch sight of the rare grey slender loris, sloth bear or chevrotain. These along with the Sri Lankan sambar deer, Sri Lankan axis deer, and wild boar are among the 24 species of mammals found here. Kaudulla is also believed to be the only national park in Sri Lanka that has albino axis deer, though the only evidence found so far is an orphaned deer calf found in the park.

The Sri Lankan elephant movement is a regular annual sight in Kaudulla. They move to Minneriya in the dryer months in search of more water and food. However, they move back from Minneriya to Kaudulla around September which has water even among the driest months. They are best seen during the evenings.

You can also see bird species such as the spot-billed pelican or the lesser adjutant, which number among the 160 or so species that visit Kaudulla or call it home. There are also quite a few species of reptiles including the Indian Black Turtle and the Indian Flap-shelled Turtle, or fish such as the Mozambique Tilapia that you might get to see.

After the safari, you will get back to the hotel by 08:30 pm, completing your tour.
